  2. Paste your landing page URL.
  3. Fill in the campaign and anything else you want to track. Source, medium and campaign are the minimum for GA4.
  4. Copy the full URL, or copy only the parameters to paste into the ad platform's URL parameters field.

What are UTM parameters?

UTM parameters are tags added to a URL (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, utm_term, utm_id) that tell analytics tools like GA4 where a visit came from.

Which UTM parameters are required?

GA4 needs utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign to attribute traffic properly. utm_content, utm_term and utm_id are optional.

Should I use UTMs on Google Ads?

Usually not, if Google Ads is linked to GA4 with auto-tagging (gclid) on. Auto-tagging gives richer data, and manual UTMs can conflict with it. The Google preset here is for cases where auto-tagging is off or you need UTMs for another analytics tool.

What do the {{campaign.name}} and __CAMPAIGN_NAME__ values mean?

They're dynamic parameters. Meta replaces {{…}} values and TikTok replaces __…__ values with the real campaign, ad set and ad names when the ad is served. Paste the generated query string into the platform's URL parameters field.

Should UTM values be lowercase?

Yes, use one consistent case. GA4 treats “Facebook” and “facebook” as different sources. This builder can lowercase values and replace spaces with dashes for you.
